Saratoga Springs, NY April 2024

Saratoga Springs was a short two night stay on our way to the Finger Lakes region of New York. This post will be as short and sweet as our visit.

Once again, we managed to find the perfect Airbnb to suit our needs. Easy in and out, not right on the main drag, but so close to everything, and plenty of space to spread out and relax. Our only regret with this one is not really having the best weather to spend time in the yard by the fire pit.

The first night was spent at a couple of the local breweries: Whitman Brewing Company, and Artisanal Brew Works. Both had good beer and friendly staff. We attempted to eat dinner at a third brewery, Druthers, but after sitting at our table for about 15 minutes and not being acknowledged by any of the waitstaff, we had to walk out. We mentioned that we were leaving since nobody served us to the host, but he didn’t seem to care. Too bad, because I thought that brewery looked like the best one. I did leave a Google review, and to this day a month and a half later no one has responded.

Day two worked out much better for us, as we were able to go to the Saratoga National Historical Park. I’m not huge into history, but my husband is, so this was a nice thing to be able to do that didn’t involve just sitting in breweries the entire time. The historical park turned out to be enjoyable because we did an audio tour while driving around the 9.5 mile loop. I preferred this to your typical museum where you have to read everything and there’s information overload everywhere. We listened to the info for each stop along the road, then got out and explored a little bit. Bonus: this park is dog friendly, and there was enough walking and jumping in and out of the car to have her completely worn out by the end.

In the evening we again left the dog at the Airbnb and went downtown to explore. We saw some rubble from 9/11 and learned about how Saratoga Springs got its name.

We did some shopping, and I was happy to find a signed copy of one of the books on my book list! The next stop was for drinks at the Cooperstown Distillery Beverage Exchange. Dinner that evening was the Olde Bryan Inn, and it was phenomenal. Be sure to read the history that is written out for you on the menu, as Bryan actually played a major and interesting part in the Revolutionary War.

Like I said, short and sweet. Saratoga Springs also has a horse racing track that we drove past. It’s a stunning facility, and I hope that if we ever come back this way we can stop and watch a race.
